Renting a Car.

Sometimes we need to rent a car because ours isn’t working, or we’re away from home and don’t have a car available. It could be a short-term rental or a long-term rental.

Hello! Good to see you here. From time to time, we may need to rent a car. It might be because our own car is being repaired, or maybe we’ve flown somewhere and need a car there. So what do you need to know in order to rent a car? You need to communicate your needs and wants effectively.

Car Size.

George : Hi, I would like to rent a car.

Fred What type of car would you like?

George What options do I have?

Fred Well, we have all kind of cars available, from small size to SUV’s. You just need to take your pick.

George Alright. I’ll go with something in the middle range. How much would a mid size car cost?

Fred It would cost you around $40 per day.

George Alright. I’ll go with that then.

Answering Questions.

Perry How long would you need the car?

George I think a week or so. I’ll be staying in the city for a week and I’ll be needing it for commuting.

Perry What’s your full name?

George It’s George Atkins.

Perry Where do you live?

George North Carolina.

Perry Do you have a valid driver’s license?

George Yes. Do you need anything else from me?

Perry Yes. Please sign the form and you can get the key from reception.

Seeking Information on Price and Rules.

Natalie How much would an SUV cost?

Frank You can rent the SUV for $100 per day.

Natalie Wow! That's really expensive! What about the fuel?

Frank The tank is full. But you need to refill it before returning the car; otherwise we charge $5 per gallon.

Natalie Renting an SUV is really an expensive deal. Anyway, how would you like me to pay?

Frank We take credit cards only.

Natalie: Okay, here’s my credit card.

Frank: You can pick up your car from the garage downstairs. Please remember to return the car by 5 pm tomorrow. We charge an additional $10 per hour after that.

Making Reservations.

Perry I would like to make a reservation for a car at Los Angeles Airport.

Natalie When is your flight getting in?

Perry I’ll be landing at LA on April 20th in the evening.

Natalie Alright. Under what name should I make the booking?

Perry Perry Johnson, please.

Natalie Alright. Just to let you know, if you need to cancel the booking, please do it 24

hours in advance or you’ll be charged a day’s rental.

Perry I’ll keep that in mind. Thank you!
